The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Michael Falade, has ordered disciplinary action against officers accused of extorting and intimidating a commercial motorcyclist during a stop-and-search operation, subject to the outcome of an investigation.

Falade condemned the alleged misconduct, stressing that no police officer was authorised to demand or collect money from members of the public while performing official duties.

He warned that officers found culpable of extortion, intimidation or abuse of office would face appropriate sanctions in line with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, disclosed that the command began investigating the incident following a complaint lodged on October 6, 2026, at the Ilupeju Police Division by representatives of the Biker Association, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Chapter.

Abutu said the complainants alleged that one of their members was intercepted by a patrol team while riding alone from Itapa to Ikole-Ekiti and was asked to pay money under improper circumstances.

He said preliminary inquiries led to the identification and detention of the officers involved, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Police Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti for a comprehensive and impartial investigation.

The command urged members of the public to report cases of police misconduct through the appropriate channels, assuring them that credible complaints would receive prompt attention.
